Description: This improved version of WinZip, the award-winning file-compression program, is designed specifically for use with Windows NT or Windows 95. It can open ZIP, ARC, ARJ, and LZH archives. In this 32-bit version, which supports long filenames and UNC, compression ability is built in, so PKZIP is not necessary for basic ZIP operations. WinZip allows you to view multiple files in an archive without closing the first file. This version makes extensive use of many Windows 95 features, such as the Recycle Bin. You can create archives directly from the desktop, in the same way as folders and shortcuts. Particularly useful is the Check Out feature for working with programs. (The Uninstall function is not yet available.) WinZip's documentation adeptly explains program operation and is also a good primer on Windows 95 file management. You must move the self-extracting EXE to a temporary directory to run the setup program. This prerelease beta version adds a Wizard option for less-experienced users and support for the TAR and GZIP file compressions that are popular on the Internet.
